The pet-friendly hotel checklist: get the policy in writing
Research-based editorial. We do not claim hands-on testing or veterinary review. Our method
A pet-friendly label leaves important questions unanswered. Policies can differ by room, dates, species and booking channel. Confirm your exact stay with the property before paying.
Send this checklist to reservations
- My pet is a [cat/dog], weighs [weight] and I am bringing [number]. Are they accepted for these dates and this room?
- What pet fees, cleaning charges, deposits or pre-authorizations apply? Are they per night, per stay or per animal?
- Can the pet ever be left unattended? Does a crate change that rule?
- Which dining areas, gardens, elevators or shared spaces can we use?
- Are there room or breed restrictions? Please confirm approval in writing.
- How should we arrange housekeeping, relief breaks and arrival?
- What cancellation terms apply if approval changes?
Compare the total stay
Compare room cost, pet charges, cleaning, required care arrangements and cancellation terms together. The lowest room rate is not necessarily the lowest total cost. Assistance-animal rules are distinct; ask the property about the applicable process rather than assuming leisure-pet policies apply.
Plan the time away from the room
If pets cannot stay unattended, a dinner reservation creates a care problem. Arrange a qualified sitter or change your plans before arrival. Ask services about handling experience, emergency procedures, insurance, cancellation terms and whether they accept your exact animal.

Paris, London and Manhattan hotel policy notes provide starting points. Properties without verified policy details are clearly labeled as inquiries, not confirmed recommendations.
